Corporate Communications Specialist, Principal - Operations
Job Description
Your Role
The Corporate Communications team is responsible for promoting the brand and reputation of
Blue Shield of California with all audiences-internal and external. The Communications
Principal will report to the Director of Corporate Communications. In this role you will support
internal and external communications for the operations organization, including writing/editing
employee communications, supporting executive visibility of the Chief Operations Officer and
supporting special projects as needed.
Your Work
In this role, you will:
- Be a communications lead for one or more business units, CEO directs, lines of business and/or key company initiatives (e.g., Growth, Strategy & Health Solutions, Law, Finance, IT, People & Engagement, Government Affairs, Transformation & Customer Experience, Corporate Citizenship, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, etc.)
- Partner with executive leadership and key stakeholders to design and implement strategic communications plans in support of Blue Shield of California priorities with the goal of establishing, advancing and maintaining a favorable corporate reputation with targeted audiences, including employees, providers, brokers, public officials, opinion leaders, regulators, consumers and media
- Create employee communications that provide clarity, confidence and connection to our mission, strategy and leadership team
- Design executive visibility programs to build our brand and reputation and develop message platforms to ensure we tell a consistent story
- Oversee, develop and/or support corporate communications campaigns and strategies on corporate priorities
- Write, edit and disseminate and coordinate messaging on issues or programs for use by all communications representatives in the company, including talking points, FAQs, statements, news releases, blog posts, presentations, letters, alerts and other documents
- Drive creative discussions and develop creative briefs and concepts to execute across a variety of media (videos, webinar presentations, events/meetings)
- Coach and prepare executives for speaking engagements with internal and external audiences
- Develop messaging to ensure we tell a consistent story
- Mentor other team members to learn, grow and contribute to a high-performing team
Your Knowledge and Experience
- Requires a college degree or equivalent experience and minimum 10 years of prior relevant experience
- Requires mastery level knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience
- Requires deep knowledge of project management
- Requires experience in strategic communications, including a demonstrated track record of providing advice and counsel to management, developing and executing successful communications strategies and programs
- Requires excellent verbal and presentation skills, executive presence, professionalism, and ability to influence C-level executives and build partnerships at all levels
- Requires outstanding creative writing skills with ability to capture executive voice and simplify and elevate their content
- Requires the ability to think strategically and create strategic and implementation plans that drive results
- Requires experience in both internal and external communications
- Requires excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Pay Range:
The pay range for this role is: $ 136400.00 to $ 204600.00 for California.

Please note that this range represents the pay range for this and many other positions at Blue Shield that fall into this pay grade. Blue Shield salaries are based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, location (California, Bay area, or outside California), and current employee salaries for similar roles.
