Job Description
CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR, Department of Central Utilities Plant, has the primary responsibility for monitoring, operating and controlling all CUP Facilities from the distributed control system (DCS). Will conduct plant startups and shutdowns; review problems and provide recommendations; perform routine operational tests and adjustments; maintain accurate records and logs and sign where required; review and analyze records for pending failures and prepare operating reports; perform equipment switching and lock out tag out (LOTO) tagging; monitor the operations of emissions control equipment; and perform duties outside the Control Room such as starting and operating the steam chillers and boilers, carrying out rounds and operating other CUP Facilities equipment.
Job Requirements:REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent; a minimum of 3 years of operating experience in power generation or central utility plant in an academic, hospital, marine or industrial environment; a minimum of MA 2nd Class Stationary Engineer License; Driver’s License; ability to lift 50 pounds and work on feet for up to 16 hour periods. Work may be performed on ladders, scaffolds and other above ground locations. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. PPE may include, but is not limited to: hard hats, safety shoes and glasses, dust masks, ear protection, protective suits and hot gloves. Must wear CUP issued safety rated uniforms. Work with hazardous materials may be required.
Position requires extended working hours which includes shift work. This includes weekend, evening and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. May be required to perform call-in duty. Employees assigned to crossover shift may have scheduled changed in order to cover other employees' vacation periods.
MIT will conduct a background check (including checking criminal records) for finalists. For current MIT SEIU members, this background check will be done for finalists who are bidding for a promotion or for a voluntary transfer to another classification or seniority unit.
