Job Description

Job Title

Broader Impacts Specialist (Hybrid Possible)

Job Description

The Center for Broader Impacts (CBI) at the University of Notre Dame is part of a strategic effort to simultaneously enhance Notre Dame Research’s efforts to support competitive research proposal development and contribute to the overall societal impact of the University. Specifically, CBI focuses on collaborating with ND faculty, campus units, and external partners to design, implement, and evaluate effective broader impacts opportunities for a wide range of audiences.

Reporting to the Center for Broader Impacts Associate Director, the Broader Impacts Specialist will play a pivotal role in supporting researchers at Notre Dame to expand the public reach and amplify the societal impact of their work. The quantity and scale of research proposals has grown exponentially since the launch of CBI in fall of 2022 and is continuing in an upward trajectory in alignment with the University’s Strategic Framework.

The Broader Impacts Specialist will advance the mission of the CBI by working closely with the Associate Director and the Faculty Director to improve Broader Impacts plans by:
  • consulting with researchers about broader impacts possibilities,
  • providing direct support to researchers to develop and review their broader impacts plans,
  • maintaining and developing key campus and community partnerships to strategically connect researchers for mutually beneficial broader impacts planning and implementation,
  • providing high-level documentation and tracking of broader impacts implementation, and scheduling larger-scale broader impacts efforts of proposals as needed.

The CBI is a part of the Notre Dame Research (NDR) division. Notre Dame Research is committed to creating a community that fosters equity of experience and opportunity and ensures that members of all backgrounds feel safe, welcome, and included. We strive to achieve a culture of openness, autonomy, and belonging; making Notre Dame an exceptional place for our team, partners, and collaborators to flourish.
