Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

To assist with oversite of the generator maintenance contract and with routine operational requirements to ensure emergency power systems are proactively maintained to provide reliable operation during emergency situations. To provide expert oversite involved in the installation, testing, maintenance, and operation of all emergency power generation systems on campus.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s degree or High School/GED with an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Experience:
10 years progressively responsible field experience working with power generation systems, and associated equipment, with at least three years in a lead or supervisory capacity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of, and skill in the theory, principles, methods and techniques used in the installation, repair, testing, and maintenance of fuel, electrical, and engine components of emergency power generation systems, equipment, and apparatus, up to and including 600 volts.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and MOSH regulations related to the electrical trade, NFPA 70E and industry standards for the maintenance of power generation systems.
  • Skilled in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment associated with power generation, including test equipment.
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from blue prints, drawings, and specifications.
  • Ability to prepare summaries and reports, communicate effectively and follow directions.

  • Experience with start-up, maintenance and trouble-shooting of power generation systems and associated equipment.

Must maintain a valid class C Maryland Driver’s license or equivalent with fewer than 6 points.

  • Must be able to work in, on, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from lifts, ladders and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs; to concurrently manipulate multiple controls on equipment and machinery; to work in hazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverse weather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personal protective equipment, including safety footwear as provided by the University.
