Summary of Position

Serve as a member of the Office of Sponsored Programs team, providing sponsored award administration services, expertise, and guidance to advance UNH’s research and other sponsored programs. Represent the university and investigators to sponsors in proposal development and submission. Assist in the administrative preparation, development, review and submission of proposals in accordance with institutional policies, sponsor and government regulations, and academic goals. Serve as a resource for faculty and staff in the interpretation of proposal and agency requirements. Work with the Support Team for the Administration of Research (STAR) to assist in facilitating the flow of information between investigators, administrative offices including research integrity services, accounting and financial compliance, UNH Innovation; and sponsors. Keep abreast of existing and emerging sponsor regulations, practices, and policies and potential impact on the institution and sponsored programs. Contribute to development of customer communications, services and training

Other minimum qualifications

1. Master’s degree in field related to finance or business and five years of experience in sponsored programs administration, including grant and contract negotiations in an academic environment, or Bachelor’s degree in field related to finance or business and seven years of similar related experience.
2. Extensive knowledge of federal regulations, sponsor guidelines, and the Federal Office of Management and Budget Uniform Guidance (2C.F.R. Part 200), as they relate to sponsored program activity.
3. Excellent organizational and time-management skills, and follow-through.
4. Ability to work effectively within tight timelines and deadline pressure at a high professional level
5. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and between teams, as well as constituents external to the centralized research administration office.
7. Considerable critical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
8. Excellent computer skills, including spreadsheets and databases.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Extensive Experience in Research Administration, particularly with a deep understanding of university operations
  • Experience working with a variety of sponsors: federal, industry, non/for-profit, foreign, other universities.
  • Ability to train and explain complex contracting and compliance topics
  • Strong communication skills
  • Solid analytical skills
  • Excellent customer service and strong sense of professionalism
  • Ability to mentor and be mentored in a close, collaborative unit.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Maintain current expertise in applicable sponsor policies and in USNH policies and procedures; advise affected USNH personnel as necessary, monitor and ensure compliance.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Extensive involvement and ownership for the detailed proposal development support and submission of grant and contract proposals for research, service projects, fee for service and other creative activities.
  • Communication with funding agencies in order to confirm or clarify grant/contract submission requirements.
  • Utilize and become proficient in Cayuse for grant management activities.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Provide professional expertise and guidance to project directors/principal investigators, business managers and other sponsored program staff on financial, budgetary and administrative matters related to sponsored programs.
  • Interact with sponsor on pre award matters as needed to facilitate the award.
  • Assist manager in the development and mentoring of junior staff.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Advise and assist business administrators, principal investigators and staff; interpret and explain grant/contract provisions and terms.
  • Participate during site visits and audits.
