Work Based Learning & Job Readiness Specialist - Special Projects (Temporary)

Job Description

Position Summary

Under general supervision of the assigned supervisor, as part of the Career Education Division, the Work-based Learning and Job Readiness Specialist will work with students to identify, engage, and participate in work-based learning and job readiness opportunities. This will include supporting faculty and staff with coordination and implementation of annual career education events such as Spotlight Night, Internship & Job Fair, and Conversations with the Pros

Typical Duties

The Work-Based Learning and Job Readiness Specialist will assist with a variety of program tasks, including, but not limited to, the following: 

  • Provide presentations at the college and its centers to increase awareness of work-based learning opportunities and development of on and off campus job/internship opportunities. 
  • Serve as point person, under guidance of full-time personnel, for annual Career Education special events that may include, but are not limited to: Internship & Job Fair, Conversations with the Pros, and other career related events. 
  • Facilitate career readiness workshops collaborating with the Career and Transfer Center. 
  • Support campus liaison to the District Committee with oversight of Handshake (career management platform) and the “Hire Los Rios” campaign. 
  • Engage and assist student and staff use of Handshake. 
  • Provide guidance to employers as needed utilizing the Handshake platform. 
  • Meet with students individually for internship preparation and job preparedness activities that include support of application and resume development, preparation of job search correspondence, and interview skills. 
  • Promote resources and programs including website announcements, newsletters, flyers, handouts, and other visual displays—both physical and digital. 
  • Create, modify and maintain reports, records and forms for various programs and platforms (e.g., for Cooperative Work Experience Program and Handshake). 
  • Participate in campus meetings, such as the Career Transfer Center and Career Education Steering Committee, which relate/support/connect to the responsibilities of this work. 
  • Develop relationships with student service departments and personnel. Collaborate with Sacramento Employment Training Agency’s Jobs Developer including cofacilitation of monthly presentations. 
  • Utilize ESARS to manage daily appointment/meeting schedules and assist with the development of the master calendar of events. 
  • Attend appropriate conferences. 
  • Performing other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: One year’s experience in job placement, human resources, career planning or student personnel services, preferably in an education community college setting; OR, two years of experience in employment development at a community-based organization.

Education: Completion of an Associate’s Degree or 60 semester units (90 quarter units)

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: One year of education is equal to 30 semester units.)

Education must be from an accredited institution.
