Overview

NV5 provides end-to-end services to fleet and property owners with their clean mobility transition. We plan, design, and commission zero-emission infrastructure and vehicle projects for commercial public and fleet charging applications.

Our unique expertise includes technical knowledge, utility coordination and full Civil, Structural and Electrical infrastructure engineering and design. This understanding of Electric Vehicles (EVs), Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), and Utility coordination results in informed engineering and design.

With hundreds of EVSE design projects completed, NV5 provides full EVSE design services and ongoing owner's representative support including construction quality assurance and commissioning (Cx) services.

As our Electrical Quality Technician, you will serve as an Owners Representative for Clean Mobility Infrastructure projects, providing field quality assurance at multiple sites during various phases of construction to identify common deficiencies, document punch list items, identify energization blockers, and provide Cx services. You will actively participate in internal weekly program syncs and work closely with the Project Managers to ensure necessary field documentation and checklists are completed. During weekly syncs all team members proactively participate to ensure client satisfaction and identify program efficiencies, review lessons learned and align on upcoming schedule for the week.

It is preferred that candidates be in California working virtually with periodic travel to NV5's San Diego, California office and frequent customer site visits as necessary.

Responsibilities

Other responsibilities include:

    Convey overall project status to clients by means of discussions, presentations, and project reports.
  • Provide support to Project Managers for planning, scheduling, and managing project budgets.
  • Responsible for the effective management of own time and effort.
  • Frequent travel within the Western United States to attend site walks and Owners Rep onsite services at commercial customer sites (Approximately 50-75% travel).
  • Inspect, witness testing, and troubleshoot low voltage (up to 600V-AC), medium (up to 25kV-AC) and potentially high voltage electrical systems.
  • Assess power transformer testing results - Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
  • Witness testing of both electro-mechanical and solid state relays
  • Review cable testing - Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot
  • Automatic transfer switch troubleshooting
  • Coordination and collaboration with project stakeholders on site
Qualifications

We are seeking the following experience & qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in a related technical field such as electrical engineering.
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience within engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of mobility infrastructure projects or similar.
  • Passion for project performance, including EV/EVSE
  • Experience with solar PV, battery storage, and microgrids a plus.
  • Experience with low, medium and high voltage switchgear and circuit breaker Experience with relay calibration and power metering.
  • Ability to identify onsite deficiencies and energization blockers. Can recommend resolution and identify root cause.
  • Experience working with NETA qualified testing vendors, ability to assess pass/fail of test results.
  • Proficient with Medium Voltage infrastructure including functional testing of relays.
  • Ability to work in small teams and coordinate onsite activities during outages (for preventative maintenance or power upgrades).
  • Experience developing and conveying findings to public or private entities.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel skills, familiarity with Smartsheet.

The pay range for this position in California is $120,000 to $140,000 per year. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
