Position Summary

The Manager of the Nursing Laboratory and Healthcare Simulation oversees all aspects of the nursing and simulation laboratories while providing experiential learning opportunities for Nursing students in the form of skills practice, simulation, competence assessment and remediation. This position will be responsible for coordination of all healthcare simulation lab activities.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the nursing skills and simulation learning spaces 
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of low, medium and high-fidelity simulation experiences, integrating best practices and industry standards to ensure high-quality, effective training experiences
  • Schedule and coordinate the Simulation Laboratory usage for classes, meetings, scheduled labs, individual student practice, and clinical make-up, including reservation of simulation spaces for other MCC healthcare programs 
  • Coordinate with faculty to ensure adequate coverage for lab hours to provide instructional support  
  • Develop and implement simulation experiences that include other MCC healthcare programs, fostering teamwork and communication to enhance integrated patient care skills 
  • Manage the setup, operation, maintenance and inventory of all lab and simulation equipment, including manikins and related technologies  
  • Facilitate faculty development in simulation education
  • Oversee and maintain inventory of simulation supplies and equipment
  • Engage in department curriculum development and implementation with an emphasis on integrating simulation techniques and strategies 
  • Provide or delegate orientation of faculty to all Nursing Skills and Simulation Laboratory
  • Remain current with national and international best practice standards in simulation and evidence-based nursing clinical skills.
  • Evaluate Nursing students’ clinical competency through direct observation during open lab hours, simulation scenarios, and recorded skills assessments; provide constructive feedback to support their development and adherence to evidence-based practice. 
  • Guide students through instructor-mandated remediation to ensure achievement of learning objectives 
  • Supervise student use of computers and all other equipment in the laboratory
  • Ensure students are oriented to and safely utilize lab equipment and technologies
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive lab guidelines and procedure manual
  • Teach Nursing classes as needed, but to not exceed 6-12 contact hours per academic year.. 
  • Facilitate collaborative relationships with others (e.g. colleagues, stakeholders, vendors) to achieve operational goals and enhance student outcomes 
  • Support the recruitment and orientation of Nursing students, facilitating their transition into the Nursing program 
  • Assume additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
  • Participate in departmental and institutional accreditation activities
  • Participation in college leadership committees is required

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution
  • Current Illinois R.N. License
  • CPR Instructor certification by the American Heart Association 
  • Nursing work experience in a hospital setting within the past five years. 
  • Two years of leadership experience either in directly managing employees or in a project management role
