The purpose of Campus Health is to provide appropriate, affordable, accessible and high quality primary health care to eligible students, and provide a comprehensive disease-prevention and
health promotion program in the NC State University community.

The major function of Campus Health is that of providing outpatient care to the 35,000+ NC State students. Some level of medical care is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year beginning in August and ending in May. Hours of service vary during the summer and during holidays and student breaks.

Essential Job Duties

The Campus Health 9 month Professional Nurse rotates to the Medical Clinic, Treatment Clinic, Travel Clinic, Centennial Campus or Gynecology Services and is responsible for assessing, implementing the treatment plan, and evaluating the patient’s response to treatment and care.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Administering IV fluid
  • Administering immunization program in compliance with state and university regulations.
  • Working independently under standing orders and procedures and documenting accurately in the electronic health record.
  • The position requires the ability to lift up to 35 pounds, stand for long periods of time, and bend to perform duties standard in providing health care.

Other Responsibilities

  • Assists with physical exams and administers medications.
  • Exhibits good documentation skills using Electronic Records.
  • Participates in fire, code blue, and emergency preparedness drills.
  • Must report to work during Adverse Weather and related scenarios and public health emergencies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Experience/Education

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records software.
  • Proficiency with clinical skills typical to an urgent care environment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply current health care and nursing trends.
  • Active communication skills that include appropriate assertiveness and delegation.
  • Ability to effectively express ideas both orally and in written form.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous clinical nursing experience that is current in an acute care setting, medical area, urgent care, Campus Health setting or M.D. office.
  • Experience making referrals in community & patient teaching.
  • Appreciation of needs of the college age population.
  • Trained with exposure to blood & body secretions and communicable diseases.

Required License or Certification

  • A current license to practice as a registered nurse in NC by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • CPR Certification Required.
